Seniors AwardJohn Kendall - 2003/2004

The Inaugural Seniors Award 2004 was awarded to John Kendall.

John Kendall has been a member of the Rotary Club of Melbourne since 1978.  With his retirement he has been able to give more time to community work with older people.

John has been involved with the development of Claremont Home for the Elderly at a number of levels.  As President of the Rotary Club of Melbourne he was involved in a large fund raising effort for the Home, and then joined their Board, serving as Chairman from 1996 to 2001 as it was restructured.

John has been instrumental in establishing six Probus clubs, and has served as President of LaTrobe Probus Club where he is still active, and as a member of the Probus Clubs Combined Area Committee.

During his career he has been active in the Meals on Wheels service in the City of Camberwell, Honorary Chairman of the Council of Adult Education for five years, involved with his church in visiting the sick and housebound, and has helped to publish an information booklet on Alzheimer’s disease.  John has served on the Welfare of the Elderly Committee of the Club.  This has included the regular delivery of library books to older housebound residents in the City of Melbourne in conjunction with the Melbourne City Library over many years.

The Club believes John is a most worthy inaugural recipient of the Rotary Club of Melbourne Senior’s Award for his continuing service above self for older people.
