The Frank Newman Training Award
About Stanley Frank Newman OBE
Frank Newman was inducted into the Rotary Club of Melbourne in 1960. He has served Rotary with distinction having held the Offices of Club President (1973/74) and District Governor (1975/76). Frank represented Australia at the Rotary International Assembly in 1977. In 1977/78 he was honoured with a Paul Harris Sapphire Award in recognition of his service to Rotary.
An engineer by profession, Frank worked both “on shore” and in the Merchant Marine. Having been exposed to apprenticeship training, he maintains a keen interest in the education of artisans. During the period 1963 to 1969 he represented the Metal Trades Employers of the Metal Trades Industry Association of Melbourne on the Apprenticeship Commission of Victoria.
Frank was also associated with many State bodies dealing with secondary education and was a Member of a Committee of Inquiry into Post-Secondary Education in Victoria.
Frank is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management, a Fellow of the Institute of Directors in Australia, and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Petroleum.
As a mark of the high regard with which Frank is held by his fellow Rotarians, the Club decided to name one of its annual Training Awards in his honour. This decision was made on the fortieth anniversary of his induction into Rotary. The Award is to be made annually, in perpetuity.
