ROTARY AT WORK - VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITY - 5TH APRIL 2014

ROTARY AT WORK - VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITY - SATURDAY, 5TH APRIL 2014

Again this year various Rotarians from a number of Clubs will be doing gardening jobs at Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Hospital in Kew as part of the Rotary at Work Program.

The working bee will be on Saturday, 5th April 2014, starting at 8am and running through to a late lunch.  Morning tea and a light lunch will be provided.

For years the gardens were run down leaving the rather stark post war and mid-fifties to seventies buildings as a rather drab exposition.

Along came Steven Wells, a former ABC Gardener of the Year who is a trained horticulturist and trained rehabilitation nurse.  He has designed the gardens as a sensory garden to aid in the rehabilitation of patients with severe trauma often caused through motor accidents.

Today the gardens are a delight, but there is always more “rehabilitation” to be done.

Steve Wells says "following our hot summer,  I now have a long list of things to do!  One area in particular is the main reception garden which has become a little tired and is due for some TLC.  This garden is adjacent to the island garden bed we’ve worked on before.

The job list includes removing plants, digging over the soil, adding fertiliser, mulching and replanting with new trees and shrubs. It will be a great mornings project!"

Members wishing to participate please contact me on 0428 970 748 for more details.

President 2013/2014
