Monash Medal 2012

The Monash Medal is awarded annually in recognition of the core values of Sir John Monash – Leadership, Integrity and Service - to a recipient who is judged to exemplify these values.

In 2012 the Monash Medal was presented to Professor Jeffrey V Rosenfeld AM for his outstanding Leadership, Integrity and Service, contributing to the Australian community and beyond throughout his life as a leading international researcher, clinician and advocate for youth mental health reform.

Sir Gustav Nossal, our first Monash Medalist, presented the 2012 Monash Medal after President Clive Weeks read the citation –

‘Jeffrey V. Rosenfeld AM, for his outstanding Leadership, Integrity and Service, contributing to the Australian community and beyond throughout his career as a leading international surgeon, researcher, clinician, military surgeon, humanitarian and advocate to reduce traumatic brain injury and landmine traumas’.

Jeffrey then addressed the meeting telling us of the challenges of Leadership, Integrity and Service faced in bringing about innovative change in neurosurgery, military and in the community, and future research developing a bionic eye.  “To Lead is to Serve”, he said.

The citation can be viewed by clicking here.
