Royce Abbey Award - 2008/2009
The 2008/2009 Royce Abbey Award was presented to Club member Garry Fowler by RI Past President Royce.
This award, established by the Rotary Club of Essendon to recognise their member and our Honorary Member and Past RI President Royce Abbey, was adopted by the Board of the RCM to be made to a member who is relatively new to the Club, has not been awarded a Paul Harris Fellow recognition, is well accepted by Club members, has a good attendance record, who has demonstrated a strong commitment to the Club and who also complies with the Object of Rotary.
The Royce Abbey Award for 2008/09 goes to Garry Fowler.
Gary joined Rotary on 30 January 2008.
In the short time since then he has made a significant contribution to this club and through that involvement to Rotary International.
Gary this year has been Minute Secretary to the Board, a position he accepted at short notice and a position he has undertaken with good humour and efficiency.
He has been deputy Group Captain to Peter Rogers for the newly formed Central Group in 2008-09.
He becomes Group Captain in the coming year.
He has been an important part of the club’s Audit Committee in the year just closing.
And he has been preparing to take on the role as Chair of International Programs Committee for 2009-10.
