Royce Abbey Award - 2007/2008

The 2007/2008 Royce Abbey Award was presented to Club member Harald Schmidt by RI Past President Royce.

This award, established by the Rotary Club of Essendon to recognise their member and our Honorary Member and Past RI President Royce Abbey, was adopted by the Board of the RCM to be made to a member who is relatively new to the Club, has not been awarded a Paul Harris Fellow recognition, is well accepted by Club members, has a good attendance record, who has demonstrated a strong commitment to the Club and who also complies with the Object of Rotary.

The Royce Abbey Award for 2007/08 goes to Harald Schmidt

Harald was inducted into the Club on the 11 July 2007 (just 10 months ago) having emigrated from Germany; since then has enthusiastically immersed himself in all aspects from fellowship to service.  Harald is an active member of the Community Welfare committee, organising the Club’s involvement in the Ride Around the Bay in a Day Event.  $25,000 is expected to be raised to support 25 Aussie kids to reach their potential by staying at school longer through the Smith family.  Our Student Exchange Program has benefited with his offer to support our outbound student Hannah Cooney during her exchange in Germany.

Harold has a near perfect attendance record and is an active and passionate group member of the Canterbury-Waverley Group.
