Seniors Award - 2006/2007

The Seniors Award 2006/2007 was awarded to Rotarian Simon Price.

Simon Price became a Member of the Rotary Club of Melbourne in 1973.  He quickly took an active roll in the life of the Club. He held the position of Vice President and Captain of Groups during John Moir’s Presidency 1975/1976.

Simon was involved in two very successful fund raising functions for The Baker Institute in 1987/88.  In 1993 he was a member of the organizing Committee for the Pacific Regional Conference and the Rotary World Conference .

Simon and his family hosted 4 Rotary Exchange Students in the 1980’s and this year 2 young Students from Bairnsdale stayed with them as part of the City / Country Exchange Programe.

From 1991 to the present date Simon has been a member of the Board of MECWA.  In 1998 Olive Miller Nursing Home in Malvern was sold and a 138 bed Noel Miller Nursing Home was built in Glen Iris.  The Board of MECWA have supervised the building of 31 residential units for low income people in Elm Road Glen Iris.  They have developed Home Care Services with the purchase of Redicare and Tudor Home Nursing Care. These services cover Melbourne and the Metropolitan area.  They have plans to build an aged care residential facility for 150 people in Malvern Rd  Malvern.

Simon is a Life Governor of the Mental Illness Fellowship of Victoria having been instrumental with his wife Jane in raising $240,000 to build a home for persons suffering from Mental Illness, in Elm Rd Glen Iris.  For some years he was on the Board of Management of the Royal Eye and Ear Hospital and the Board of the Y.M.C.A.  He is currently a Trustee of the Queen Elizabeth Centre Foundation.

Simon was on the Board of Management of Glenloch Homes For The Elderly from 1992 until 2004.  Glenloch runs 6 homes for pensioners comprising 41 double units and 121 single units within the City of  Stonnington.

Simon served on the Welfare of the Elderly Committee from 1995 -2003.  During this time the Committee organised several Lunches for the Elderly Citizens of the City of Melbourne and continued involvement with Claremont Home and other projects.

Simon continues to serve his Community and  The Rotary Club of Melbourne considers him to be a most worthy recipient of The Senior Citizens Award.

He epitomizes the Principle of “Service Above Self”.
